ABOUT JCD
Founded in 1963, the predecessor of the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD) was once known as the Japanese Society of Commercial Space Designers. The society was established under the increasing demand for improvement in commercial environmental designs prior to the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. Since then, the social and design atmosphere in Japan and around the world have changed drastically. JCD provides a professional platform to enable the exchange of ideas between commercial and environmental designers, and continues to contribute back to society through the promotion and enhancement of cultural values. JCD is an organisation that consists of interior designers, architects, spatial designers, lighting designers and graphic designers, etc., and serves as a platform for diverse individuals, both domestic and foreign, to interact and broaden their horizons on design perspectives.
In waves of change and influence, JCD has constantly produced campaigns that have continued to achieve its mission. JCD endeavours the international exchange of knowledge between members of the industry, for designers to question one’s own achievements in order to push one’s limits, to share their skills and expertise to the world, to receive high acclamation in return and to irrevocably contribute back to society.
CATEGORIES FOR PARTICIPATION & SUBMISSION
Communication design in the commercial environment includes projects in the following six (6) categories
Retail Space
Shops (Fashion, Specialty Stores, Delicatessens)・Showrooms・etc.
Food & Beverage Space
Restaurants・Cafes・Bars・Food Courts・Canteens・etc.
Public Commercial Space
Shopping Centers・Department Stores・Shopping Malls(Outlets)・Markets (Foods, FLowers, Miscellaneous Goods)・etc.
Service & Entertainment Space
Hotels(City, Resort)・Ceremony Halls(Memorial, Wedding, Funeral)・Beauty salons・Spas・Fitness Gyms・Amusement Centres・Cinemas・etc.
Culture & Communication Space
Museums・Libraries・Theatres・Forum Spaces・Concert Halls・Religious Spaces・Railway Stations・Airports・etc.
Public Living Space
Offices・Studios・Apartment Public Spaces・Health Centres・Medical Institutions・Educational Institutions・Warehouses・Factories・etc.
Entries should have been created between May 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018 and should currently be in operation.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY
Designers who held a position of responsibility for the work. Such individuals may also apply to be judges.
(Judge applicant cannot vote for his/her own work.)

JUDGING PROCEDURES
- Initial screening will be undertaken on the internet over a live FACEBOOK feed.
- The highest rated commercial environment designs of the year will be selected from entries to be BEST 100
- Results will be announced on JCD/MERCI (OVERSEAS - HK) website.
- If the applicant passes the primary screening, the applicant cannot submit the presentation panel before 2nd screening day, or failed to respond to the secretariat’s communication, or we cannot reach the applicant, the applicant’s submission will be automatically declined.
FINAL JUDGING
Works selected as JCD BEST 100 will be placed on presentation panels and judged at a live event on FACEBOOK.
