Momojein - Modern Korean Restaurant

“Korean wave” is still spreading across Hong Kong. Many new Korean snack shops, cafés and restaurants are opened every day which is not surprised when a new one is found opened near your home or workplace. Generally, the most popular Korean food in Korean restaurant are: kimchi tofu soup - “Soft Tofu Stew”, noodle with black soybean paste sauce - “Jiajangmyeon”, rice cakes with sweet and spicy sauce - “Tteokbokki”, ginseng chicken soup – “Samgyetang” and so many more. However, the newly opened Korean restaurant may bring to you an unusual Korean cuisine.

Opened in Wan Chai QRE Plaza in early August, Momojein is a modern Korean restaurant - stylish and decent interior design with wooden table and bar top; grey stucco flooring and white wall finish; black steel partition with geometric pattern (same as its logo) at entrance and ceiling which form a leading pathway to the customer towards another private corner of the restaurant. Heading the culinary team is the Korean celebrity Chef Lim Hee Won, who has over 10 years cooking experiences and is crowned one of the top 8 star chefs on CJ television channel’s cooking programme “Oliver Show”.

Momojein’s menu provides an unparalleled insight into the revolutionized traditional Korean cuisine. The “Kalbi Hotteok” wasn’t looking so attractive with its presentation; however you will be surprised with its chewy and sweet glutinous bun, juicy teriyaki beef fillings and the ranch sauce with Korean chili which leveled up the taste of this reinterpreted traditional sweet Hotteok. Besides, "Samgyetang", ginseng chicken soup, whole chicken stuffed with rice in a stone pot which is always popular in most of the Korean restaurants, Chef Lim has crafted this dish with a modern and exquisite presentation. The chicken thigh is filled with rice, red beans and lentils, rolled up like roulade, slow cooked sous vide in chicken broth and finally served in a small steel wok. Last but not least to share is the “Beef & Poached Egg” - tender shredded beef stewed for 6 hours is placed in the middle with runny poached egg on top and white radish at the bottom. Everything goes so well together if there’s a bowl of steamed rice to come along with that would just be perfect.

EMPORIO ARMANI x THE NEW VESPA 946

The 40th anniversary of the foundation of Giorgio Armani and the 130th birthday of the Piaggio Group – Emporio Armani has designed a special version of the Vespa 946. In keeping with Armani’s signature subdued colour palette, the designer has come up with a special combination of greys with subtle hints of green visible only under particular light conditions for the project to celebrate two of Italy’s most established symbols of style and creativity.

The name ‘Vespa 946’ alludes to the year – 1946 – that this scooter, which has become iconic and famous around the world, was first made. The design of the new Emporio Armani is a modern reinterpretation of the original Vespa style. The metallic parts have been treated in order to convey a matt effect in line with the body finishings. The words ‘Emporio Armani’ appear on the side, while the iconic eagle logo of the brand sits above the headlight.

The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani is about technology as well as style. Its aluminium cylinder blocks, brown-leather finishes, luxury accessories, electronic riding controls (which also interface with the latest Internet devices) complement the innovative four-stroke electronic injection engine, whose enhanced fuel economy and minimal emissions make this two-wheeler the ideal choice for city riding. The 220 mm double disc brake, two-channel ABS braking system and large 12 inch wheels guarantee maximum safety on the road.

The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani will be produced in an exclusive run of individually numbered scooters, and now is on sale in the world’s most important cities.

Holy Crab - The 2015 East Meets West Culinary Exchange

8It is quite rare to find a seafood restaurant around the famous hot spot Lan Kwai Fong where normally surrounded by a lot of bars and pubs. Finally, the Salient Group opened their first Cajun seafood restaurant – Holy Crab in town during mid-February this year. Holy Crab offers an authentic Cajun seafood cuisine experience together with their unique aquatic interior decoration. One of the remarkable features is the giant 3-metre wide rock pool in the middle of the restaurant which containing daily deliveries of fresh and live seafood from overseas.

Currently, it debuts a monthly special menu promotion “The 2015 East Meets West Culinary Exchange”, celebrating and promoting the unique cuisines of Thailand and Canada. “This exchange aims to celebrate exactly that shared bond, and to promote and raise awareness of Eastern and Western cuisines and their similarities and difference.” says Alwin J. Wong, Managing Director of The Salient Group.

Two outstanding chefs have created and presented two different ways of seafood cooking styles. Holy Crab’s Executive Chef Mark Kerkstra created the menu of  the West mainly using Canadian-sourced ingredients with his specialty in French and New American cuisine style, like “Dungeness Crab Popover” and “Crown and Maple Canadian Seafood Trio”.  Another two of the unforgettable dishes were “Pond and Pasture Grits”, in which you get the taste  3 different textures at the same time - creamy Cajun style Cheddar Cheese Grits, soft Coffee Grilled Ontario Pork Loin and springy Tiger Prawns; remember to save your appetite for the devil dish “Canard Poutine”, Duck Fat Gravy with Duck Confit, Quebec Foie Gras and Gruyere Cheese over Duck Fat Fries.  Thai Celebrity Chef Chalee Kader has been cordially invited to this exchange for the menu of East. His creations are based on 4 different regions of Thailand – “North” Kao Soy Thai Noodles with Tiger Prawns, “North East” Lemongrass Chicken Rice with Papaya Salad and Salted Duck Egg, “Central” Crab Curry, and “South” Chicken Turmeric Soup. Each dishes is there to tantalize your taste buds. Lastly, don’t miss out the two special cocktails from the special menu, “East – Lychee Delight”, a refreshing lemongrass taste with vodka base and  “West – Royal Maple” a gin based with pineapple juice and Quebec Maple syrup.

It is suggested to go with some friends and family, get your hands dirty and enjoy the fun and Cajun dining experience.  “The 2015 East Meets West Culinary Exchange” menu is available from 18 August to 16 September (Monday to Sunday), 6pm until Midnight.
