Set to redefine the landscape of Asian hospitality, The PuLi Group will launch next year as an exclusive collection of distinctive luxury hotels. What began as a singular icon in Shanghai now evolves into the flagship of a growing global portfolio that will span some of the world’s most vibrant cities.
With the appointment of Victor Clavell as Chief Executive Officer, the group enters a new era of vision and refinement. Inspired by the Chinese meaning of PuLi—“uncarved jade”—the brand will continue to champion understated elegance, meticulous craftsmanship, and a deep cultural resonance. The portfolio brings together three properties: The PuLi Shanghai, the original flagship (opened in 2009), and its sister white-label hotels, The PuXuan in Beijing and The RuMa in Kuala Lumpur.
A New Chapter for Shanghai
To usher in this next phase, The PuLi Shanghai will undergo a full transformation, thoughtfully reimagining the guest journey while honouring the essence that has defined the hotel since its opening. Layan Design Studio, designer of the original interiors, returns to reinterpret the spaces through an East-meets-West lens.
All guestrooms and suites will be redesigned as if they were a collector’s private residence, curated with bespoke furnishings, original Chinese artworks, and meaningful literature. Public spaces—including the Lobby, The Library, and the iconic Long Bar—will be refreshed with a quiet, contemporary sensibility.
The hotel’s dedicated wellness floor will introduce a new benchmark for holistic wellbeing, featuring revitalising movement spaces, nutrient-focused dining, social wellness gatherings, and sleep-restorative practices. Additional offerings include a Hair Up Bar for complimentary daily styling, a nail bar in partnership with Bastien Gonzalez, and an enhanced membership programme with exclusive access and privileges.
A newly built 377sqm penthouse, complete with a sweeping outdoor terrace, will set the stage for landmark celebrations, private gatherings, and bespoke experiences overlooking Shanghai’s skyline.
Culinary Evolution
Two new dining destinations will anchor the property’s culinary direction.
The PuLi Bar & Grill will present a refined all-day experience—calm and contemplative by day, lively by night—while an intimate eight-seat omakase restaurant, created by Spin Design Studio, will highlight seasonal Japanese cuisine crafted with precision.
The legendary Long Bar—a cornerstone of Shanghai’s social scene—will unveil a renewed identity featuring a sensory-driven cocktail programme that blends Eastern and Western influences. Both The Long Bar and The PuLi Bar & Grill will become signature concepts across future PuLi properties.
Beyond a Hotel
As the blueprint for the brand’s expansion, The PuLi Shanghai will introduce curated cultural programming, collaborations with artisans, and immersive guest experiences that reflect the spirit of each destination. The PuLi Group’s growth will begin across key Asian cities—Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, and Bangkok—before extending globally into hotels, resorts, branded residences, and retail. By 2035, the group aims to operate 20 hotels, with an additional nine in development, while maintaining its strong roots in Asia.
CEO Victor Clavell, whose nearly three decades of experience include senior leadership roles with The Ritz-Carlton, Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts, EDITION, and Rosewood, notes:
“We want to redefine conscious luxury—not through scale or spectacle, but through restraint, authenticity, and calm. Our vision is to create sanctuaries of balance within the world’s most dynamic destinations—places composed with clarity, grace, and purpose.”
