TOM DIXON PRESENTS ALTO

Creative direction of Tom Dixon, Design Research Studio (DRS) has created the interiors for ALTO, a new contemporary grill in Hong Kong. ALTO is Design Research Studio’s first restaurant project in Asian territory. DRS has called upon the practice of alchemy and the four classical elements of earth, air, fire and water to create dramatic and striking interiors that bare the darker side of nature. Inspired by ALTO ’s concept of a contemporary grill with reinterpreted classics, each furnishing and fixture has been carefully selected for its association with the natural elements or the transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary. Tom Dixon used a monochrome backdrop to frame ALTO ’s expansive views and the interior’s raw textures. The restaurant’s expansive canopy of 230 gold mini Melt lights - the biggest installation of its kind in the world - sits over the main restaurant space and creates a warm glow that distorts, reflects and sets the glamorous tone of the dining experience. Blackened timber table tops and benches resonate fire, as does the molten metal of the restaurant’s brass fittings and fixtures. Extensive use of green marble and terrazzo stone throughout the restaurant embody earth and ALTO ’s mountainous geographical location.

The FORM tea set calls to a forgotten era and is the sophisticated way to serve British afternoon tea. A six-piece set all formed in solid brass includes tea pot (HK$1,900), jug (HK1,160), tea caddy (HK$700), milk jug (HK$660), sugar dish and spoon (HK$780) and stamped tray (HK1,710), all available individually.
SCENT Elements candle collection (retails from HK$1,050 each) is Tom Dixon’s second olfactory adventure and is a celebration of the bare essentials. All four scents are created in a bid to demystify the obscure complexities of the most misunderstood of the senses – smell. The minimalist attitude has delivered four scents of extreme simplicity and individual character that reflect their elemental names of Fire, Air, Earth and Water. All Tom Dixon lightings, furniture and accessories that feature at ALTO are available at Lane Crawford.

Pérignon P2, the burst of energy! Happy Friday!

Dom Pérignon’s creation is centered upon its absolute dedication to vintage wines. Dom Pérignon wines come exclusively from one year and one year only - a true challenge for a unique interpretation of the seasons, and for reinvention.
Dom Pérignon also aspires for each of its vintages to have the potential to gradually transform, in a quest to find itself.
Seemingly still in the obscurity of the cellars, in the long journey of maturation on the lees*, the wine paradoxically takes on a decisive dynamic. It goes through a metamorphosis, a magnification. It keeps its original promise, yet expresses a new interpretation of classic codes.
Each evolution contributes to Dom Pérignon’s beautiful singularity. These privileged moments of succession are called “Plénitudes” - moments where the wine sings higher and stronger. From one Plénitude to the next, Dom Pérignon’s “Power of Creation” is affirmed in discreet perfection, as the intriguing drama of the vintages grows in the secret of the cellars.
Dom Pérignon P2 owes its intensity to its precision, paradoxically balancing yet embracing, chiselling without breaking, barely touching without ever hitting hard. Like any high-tech creation, it reveals itself in high-definition. The momentum of Dom Pérignon P2 is even stronger in its dark, understated and powerful aesthetic. Its tone-on-tone bottle and minimalist brushed aluminium box, in a deep matte, seem almost to be locked to temporarily subdue the wine’s energy.
Dom Pérignon P2 is the reward for this sharp mastery of wine. It deploys a vibrato universe of an exceptional air density. Tasting the wine is a memorable experience, abundant in intense and penetrating sensations and vividly fresh emotions.
A new luxury of uniqueness appears. It takes on the energy of total experiences, the disorientation of unexpected sensations, the perfection of bold gestures, the pulsation of once-in-a-lifetime occurrences. Dom Pérignon P2 is part of this elegant matrix – that of the avant-garde.
