The Swallow Chair, like it’s feathered namesake, is graceful, dynamic and compact. It’s sweeping curves culminate in hand-cut dovetails at the front and a hand-stitched leather backrest at the top.

This example is made from reclaimed teak and upholstered in veg-tanned leather from Tarnsjögarveri.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Matthew Coutts is an English born designer-maker, now living and working in Stavanger, Norway.

Trained in both Fine Art and traditional cabinetmaking, his work blends bold lines and sculptural forms with finely crafted details to create elegantly refined items of furniture, rooted in the heritage of both British and Scandinavian furniture making.

Inspired by the very trees that yield the timber he works with, Matthew explores the relationship of lightness and fluidity found in organic growth balanced with the structural soundness locked within it.
