Merci 10th Anniversary Exhibition - Resonance

Welcome to the Merci Magazine 10th anniversary exhibition, a celebration of design that explores the powerful interplay between "5 chapters". Through a carefully curated selection of works and installations, we invite you to explore the ways in which design can create echoes that reverberate through time and space, while also engaging your senses and emotions in a deeply meaningful way.

At its core, this exhibition is a celebration of the transformative power of design, and the many ways in which it can shape our world and our lives. Through the interplay of light and shadow, texture and form, sound and silence, designers have crafted works that engage all the senses, inspiring reflection, contemplation, and joy.

As part of this celebration, we are proud to announce the launch of "One Story," a new publication curated by Merci Magazine that showcases the design value and vision of selected designers. Through interviews, photographs, and in-depth analysis, "One Story" offers a glimpse into the creative process and vision of designers who are shaping the future of design.

As you explore this exhibition, we invite you to embrace the theme of "Resonance and Sensibility", to reflect on the ways in which design can create resonance between people, ideas, and cultures, while also engaging your own senses and emotions in a deeply meaningful way. We hope that this exhibition, together with "One Story," will inspire you to see the world in new and exciting ways, and to embrace the transformative power of design in your own life.

Thank you for joining us on this journey of discovery, and for being a part of the Merci Magazine community. We look forward to celebrating the beauty and complexity of design with you, and to exploring the many ways in which it can create resonance and inspire sensibility in our world.

Five Chapters included in the exhibition:

Five Chapters included in the Merci 10th Anniversary Exhibition: "Resonance", "Peerless", "Reliance", "Once-in-a-lifetime", and "Wabi-sabi". Each chapter offers inspiration and encouragement for visitors to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve anything they set their minds to.

Through this exhibition, we celebrate not only the stunning works of art but also the power of creativity and the endless possibilities it holds. We hope that visitors will leave feeling inspired, encouraged, and ready to pursue their own creative endeavors. No matter how challenging the path may seem, with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. So come and explore the world of "Five Chapters" and discover the beauty and potential of the creative spirit.

Chapter 2: Peerless

We are all unique individuals, just like every design, every issue of a magazine, or every moment in time. There is no one else in the world who is exactly like you. You are incomparable, one of a kind, and extraordinary. Don't compare yourself to others or feel intimidated by their achievements. Believe in yourself, and recognize that you possess something special that no one else has. You have the power to create, innovate, and make a positive impact on the world. So go out there, pursue your dreams, and embrace your uniqueness with pride. Remember, throughout this vast universe, there is only one of you.

Chapter 3: Once-in-a-lifetime

Just like how hosts and guests must both give their utmost sincerity in their encounter, this concept has expanded to encompass the preciousness of encounters between people, events, and objects.

Magazines, designers, and readers all share a common thread. This exhibition will showcase magazine articles and designs that may have gone unnoticed by readers and visitors.

For those who come to see the exhibition, I hope they will cherish the encounters between people.

Chapter 4: One Story

The theme of One Story is to introduce various designers, but ultimately, we hope that through One Story, people will understand the importance of belief. "This is me, it could be you." Even though I am not currently aiming to curate an exhibition focused solely on design, I have considered adding mirrors in the exhibition space so that visitors can see their own reflections and thoughts. Everyone has a story, and sometimes it is difficult to hold onto our beliefs. Our beliefs can sometimes be defeated by life's challenges. I carefully selected seven designers for this exhibition, each with their own inspiring story that can spark personal reflection. Design is not only about aesthetics, but also about how designers can instill confidence in their clients that their beliefs can be realized in their projects with practical value. Some designers may hope to create designs that have a positive impact on society. What kind of impact will this exhibition have on their thinking and inspiration? Accepting our imperfections allows us to think about our true desires. Can we rediscover our beliefs, and use them to accomplish projects we were once too afraid to tackle? Or can we be guardians of others? This is why we emphasize the value of design thinking in One Story. This is closely related to belief. If visitors follow the exhibition in order, they may first reflect on their beliefs, then come to terms with their imperfections. From this perspective, they can learn to hold onto their beliefs and stand by them, despite their imperfections.

One Story included the story of the following designers:

Wesley Liu

Frank Lo

Enoch Hui

Max Lam

CM Jao & Ken Cheung

Chapter Five: Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-sabi is a concept that is not easily defined, much like Zen philosophy, it emphasizes on "intuitive understanding". Wabi-sabi is also a compound noun with different meanings when separated. "Wabi" refers to a simple and natural way of life. In contrast to the elaborate and perfect external appearance, the plain and imperfect inner "truth" appears more unconventional. "Sabi" originally refers to the changes that occur naturally in all things as they age over time.

In this chapter of the exhibition, I hope that visitors can be inspired by their own feelings. Perfect imperfect: accepting the flaws of others and realizing that just like you, they are also imperfect. If we look at this exhibition from a reverse perspective, we must first accept our own imperfections. Just like the beautiful designs or life stories we see in magazines, they all start with imperfect ideas. In fact, everyone is the same and there is no such thing as a perfect person. By learning to accept our imperfections, we can appreciate ourselves more and our perspective on life and things we see can become more positive. (All imperfections are also a kind of perfection).
